How old are you?
I just turned 26.
Can you tell us a little bit about your hometown?
I spent my first 14 years living in Plunge, Lithuania. Since I moved out from there I have been drifting and moving to different places almost every year or so.
Which artist or photographer inspires you?
There’s so much great art out there but I couldn’t pick one artist to that inspires me. There’s too many!
How do you keep things interesting and get out of a creative rut?
I think staying out of your comfort zone allows you to constantly get new creative ways of looking at things.
What has inspired you to start shooting and become a photographer?
Since the childhood I loved the process of taking pictures. My first encounter with photography was at the age of 7 when I found a disposable camera in a cereal box. I remember quite well that day and what I photographed. After the film was exposed I put in a box and it was forgotten for years.
I got into photography more seriously when my grandmother gave me an old SLR camera when I was 14 years old. I was very lucky to have after school classes in my town where they teach photography. There was a darkroom and a knowledgeable teacher that introduced me to various analogue processes.
At that point I just knew that this is what I want to do. It felt liberating, photography felt natural thing to do.
Do you think Instagram is a positive or negative thing for photography?
For me as a photographer it is almost unavoidable to use Instagram and I think it is more positive rather than negative thing for photography. Surely the quality of the photographs is reduced and often they are looked at through tiny screens but it is so interesting to look at what people do and what they take pictures of.
Nowadays smartphones are always close to us and the way we take pictures also changed. The availability of having camera with you at all times makes people take photographs just because they can and often as a communicative tool. Besides that it is a great platform to get glimpses of other artists work and connect with people.
Can you define your photography in three words?
Quiet, attentive and emphatic.
What is your favorite movie? And why?
I don’t have a favorite film but the one I watched recently that I keep coming back was La Jetée by Chris Marker.
Your dream place to live?
Since I was small I was constantly moving to different places. If I would choose where to live that would be in a forest. I would stay in one place like a tree. But maybe not yet.
Favorite fashion brand at the moment?
There are quite a few fashion brands that make clothing that I like but in the last couple of years I mostly shop in second hand shops.
What did you Google last?
Google translate.
One thing people may be surprised to find out about you?
I love white noise.
